Specialists and students of the department of archeology and ethnology under the guidance of U.U. Umitkalievich conduct field research in the «Chingistau archaeological expedition». Also, field research work under the guidance of Khabdulina M.K. is carried out by researchers from the Research Institute. K.A. Akisheva and students in the «Esil archaeological expedition».
Students of the 1st, 2nd, 3rd courses of the specialty 6B0208 – «Archaeology, ethnology and physical anthropology», studying at the department of archeology and ethnology, undergo educational archaeological and ethnographic practice, and 4th year students – pre-diploma practice. Archaeological and ethnographic educational practice of students takes place at the Kyrykungir monument near the village of Toktamys, Abay district, Abay region.
The Kyrykungir monument is located in the region where the Konyr Aulie cave is located, the village and the grave of the beloved Abai Togzhan, the school where Mukhtar Auezov taught, the place where Kurmash lived from the story «Kokserek».
The Kyrykungir burial ground consists of more than 130 burial monuments from the Bronze Age to the Turkic period. In addition to burial monuments, in the vicinity of the burial ground there are ancient settlements and winter quarters dating back to the ethnographic period. Along with archaeological research, ethnographic research is carried out during the practice.
Activities for the employment of graduates are carried out at the level of the faculty, department. On the part of the Department of Archeology and Ethnology and the «employer» various scientific seminars are held with the participation of a branch of the Institute of Archeology. A.H. Margulan in Astana and the National Museum of the Republic of Kazakhstan. The Research Institute «Halyk Kazyna» of the National Museum of the Republic of Kazakhstan is one of the places to provide employment for graduates.
