On May 12, 2023, the L.N.Gumilyov Eurasian National University hosted an international scientific and practical conference "Kazakh-Dzungarian wars in the XYII-XYIII centuries: research and new understanding" dedicated to the 300th anniversary of the Kazakh-Dzungarian wars.
The purpose of the conference is to rethink and scientifically study the events that left an imprint on the heritage of the Kazakhs (“Aktaban shubyryndy, Alkakol sulama”). These events are known in the history of the Kazakh steppe and the memory of the Kazakh people as the "Years of the Great Calamity".
The conference was attended by foreign scientists- historians, orientalists, ethnographers, archaeologists — from Russia, Kyrgyzstan, Hungary, China and others. Kazakh science was represented by scientists from leading Kazakh universities and scientific institutes, as well as the Department of History of Kazakhstan and Archeology and Ethnology of the L.N.Gumilyov ENU. Teachers of schools of Astana and Akmola region took an active part in the sectional work of the conference.
